What is a Favicon?

Created by Katie Gorham, Modified on Sun, 16 Feb at 9:03 PM by Katie Gorham

A favicon is the tiny picture or icon you see in your browser tab when you visit a website. It’s also the little image that shows up next to a website name in your bookmarks or history. For example, if you visit YouTube, you’ll see their red play button icon in the browser tab.

Think of it as a website’s "profile picture" that helps people recognize it quickly.

Why is it important?

  • It makes your website look professional.
  • It helps people find your site easily when they have lots of tabs open.
  • It shows up in bookmarks, making your site stand out.
