Step 1: Sign Up for Twilio

Create Your Account

  1. Open your web browser and navigate to twilio.com.
  2. Click on the “Get Started” or “Sign Up” button.
  3. Fill in your name, email address, and a password of your choice. In many cases, Twilio offers a free trial, so you’ll see prompts related to trial credits during registration.
  4. Complete any additional steps required during sign up, such as verifying your email address and phone number (Twilio typically sends you a confirmation code via SMS).
  5. Once verified, you will be redirected to your Twilio Console, where you can manage your account settings, view your credits, and access various Twilio products.

Step 2: Buy a Phone Number

Locate the Phone Number Purchase Options

  1. In the Twilio Console, locate the sidebar menu and click on “Phone Numbers.”
  2. Click the “Buy a Number” button. This will open a new page or dialog that allows you to search for and select a phone number.

Select and Purchase a Toll‑Free Number

  1. Use the filters provided to narrow your search. If your goal is to register a toll‑free number, select “Toll-Free” from the type options and choose which capabilities (voice, SMS, or both) you require based on your use case.
  2. Review the list of available toll‑free numbers. Twilio typically displays details such as country, available features, and pricing.
  3. Once you’ve found a number that meets your needs, click on the “Buy” or “Select” button next to it.
  4. Confirm the purchase details on the confirmation screen. If you’re on a paid plan (or once your trial credits are exhausted), you’ll need to have a valid payment method on file.

Step 3: Register for Toll‑Free Verification

Access the Verification Section

  1. In the Twilio Console, navigate to the “Messaging” section. Depending on your account interface, you might need to select “Services” or “Phone Numbers” within Messaging to view additional options for toll‑free numbers.
  2. Click on the toll‑free number you just purchased. On the phone number configuration details page, look for an option such as “Toll‑Free Verification” or “Setup Toll‑Free Messaging.”

Complete the Verification Process

  1. Initiate the verification process by clicking the verification or registration button. Twilio will usually prompt you to provide additional business and compliance information.
  2. You may be asked to enter details such as your company name, contact information, and website. Additionally, required documentation might include a copy of your business license or proof that you have the right to use the toll‑free number for messaging.
  3. Complete the application form carefully. Double-check that all information is correct and all required documents are attached.
  4. Submit the form. Twilio will then review your application with the relevant carriers.
  5. You will be notified of the status of your verification via email. The review process could take from a few days up to a week (or longer, depending on the volume or additional requirements).

Once you receive verification approval, your toll‑free number will be fully enabled for messaging and any other communications services that comply with carrier regulations.
